Why is it not called Dartmouth University?

I thought that a university was an institution with multiple schools. Dartmouth has Tuck, Thayer, medical, etc., so why is it called Dartmouth College?

“With these professional schools and graduate programs, conventional American usage would accord Dartmouth the label of “Dartmouth University”;[11] however, because of historical and nostalgic reasons (such as Dartmouth College v. Woodward), the school uses the name “Dartmouth College” to refer to the entire institution.”

^^from wikipedia

“College” also has an emphasis on undergraduate education. For example, the undergraduate part of Harvard University is called “Harvard College.” By calling the whole institution a “college,” it reinforces the idea that the undergraduates are the center of Dartmouth College.

Google Daniel Webster… we’re very attached to our small college alone in the wilderness

@Dartmouthgrad2014: Although this is true of Dartmouth, I believe the reason why it is called “Dartmouth College” is because of what the noob dude stated in the post preceding yours.
