Why is Lang more popular?

<p>This question asks it all. Why is AP Lang more popular than AP Lit?</p>

<p>Usually Lang is the prerequisite for Lit. Prerequisites tend to be more popular than upper levels. People get weeded out in Lang.</p>

<p>Lang = less reading </p>

<p>Lit= lots of very difficult hard reading</p>

<p>if you can’t handle the reading/essay writing in lang (writing on simple, diverse topics) you’ll bomb the more complex ones in lit.</p>

<p>Many high schools offer AP Lang for juniors and AP Lit only for seniors.</p>

<p>The other reason is even simpler: </p>

<p>Poetry.</p>

<p>The skills you learn from studying Lang put you at an advantage when you take Lit.
At my school, all juniors are required to take Lang. You can then take AP Lit next year if you receive a B+ or higher in AP Lang. Surprisingly, a lot of students have trouble meeting this prerequisite at my school. So that explains why Lang is more popular (at least where I live).</p>

<p>AP Lang is offered for juniors at my school. Only about 50% of people from AP Lang move on to AP Lit because of the sheer number of essays that the teacher makes you write towards the end of the year (about 4 a week between the beginning of March to the exam).</p>

<p>That’s why I literally grinned at all of the essays today. Too easy.</p>

<p>Most schools have AP lang. before AP lit. because they think that language is easier. Other schools are set up differently and probably have prepared juniors better for lit. than lang. I know that for my high school, I only read fictional texts the first two years and then I took AP lit. Then Language.</p>
