Why is psychology the most popular major?

Is because it is a easy major? What kind of jobs do they pursue?

Because it’s general and universal. We’re all human, we all have thoughts, emotions and problems. Why not study it?

Because it fuses together science and humanities.

I think it’s because teenagers go through a lot of emotional and psychological stuff while growing up. So, it’s just something that’s very related to their life. This is just my theory though.

It’s easy. It’s also highly romanticized by Television.

It’s very applicable to everyday life. Plus, it’s a fun major.

Agreed with everyone except Yakyu.

Because every other common social science I can think of is touched upon by psychology except history… Plus everyone loves ink blot tests.

Because its easy.

i agree with demoz.

i might want to go into psychology
not because it’s easy but because it’s just a way to connect with people and help them understand and better their life.

Personally I am majoring in Psychology because it will allow me to go into each of the 5 fields that I am considering: Medicine, Law, Education, Pharmaceutical Sales, or Counseling.

And believe me its not THAT easy :)

Because you can use it to go to several different fields…attorney, psychologist, psychiatrist, med school, teacher, professor. Probably why Biology is also a popular major.

Why is psychology the most popular major?

is this a general assumption or statistical evidence? just curious…

but i think psychology is nice in the way that you learn how ppl think, and isn’t that cool? I mean srsly… going out with your friends, you start analyzing everything they do…

It’s popular because there are a lot of paths that can be taken within the field.

When I went to a psychology major accepted students day, I noticed that most of the other girls wanted to go into counseling. Their reason for majoring in psychology most likely had to do with wanting to help others. On the other hand, I would like to become a research psychologist, and am majoring in it because I am interested in learning about how people and their brains work.

Psychology is a fascinating subject, which would explain why it’s so popular.

Because you can party hard and still get an A

Interesting/relates to basically everyone, can apply it to daily life so people see a ‘point’ to it, and also a lot of people think it’s easy. It may or may not be an easy A major, depending on the school, but I think a lot of people have the assumption that it’s very easy. That may come from the fact that people take AP Psych and that’s super easy, so they think college psych courses must be super easy too.
