Why is the roof of the main building at Trinity College Dublin patched over?

I’m told that the lighter-colored tiles on the roof of the far-left section were installed to cover over some form of student mayhem. Does anyone know the story?

I was at TCD in the early 1970s, but I plead innocent with regard to any mischief causing damage to the roof. I haven’t heard of any incidents like the one alluded to, but there has been a lot of repair work in recent years, some necessitated by fires and others by the age of the buildings.

Irishdr - What’s the name of the building in the photo?

The building is Regent House, and the passageway in the middle leads to the front gate of TCD. The view is from Parliament Square, looking back towards the main entrance.

It’s a bit odd - whatever the reason for the patching you would have thought that they could have got a better colour match.
