he lives in a house
he live in a house

why is live plural

he lives in a house
he live in a house

why is live plural

You have to conjugate verbs to match the subject.

Since ‘he’ is 3rd person singular, you have to use ‘lives’ since the word is conjugated as: I live, you live, he/she/it lives, we live, they live

???

That is not plural.
That is called subject-verb agreement.

So… It is def. “lives” instead of “live”…

=_______="

hah…

fun with verbs. yay.

i can tell your not a native speaker ^_^

omg why cant you help me. Why is it live plural. LIVES should be plural. He lives… ???

here, the word ‘live’ is used as a VERB, as in ‘i was living there…’

and see how verbs, when you are using them for he/she/it you put an ‘s’ at the end? like
I love you
She loves me
He loves her

so the word ‘live’ isn’t plural- it was just conjugated to fit the pronoun ‘he’.

Singular: lives

He lives in a house.
My dog lives in a doghouse.
The fish lives in the pond.

Plural: live

We live in a shack.
The soldiers want something to live for.
Plants live in good soil.

Just something you have to memorize, I suppose.

as a ‘verb’ , he lives would be singular and we live would be plular
as a ‘NOUN’, life would be singular and lives would be plular

i think this is what confuse you

I’m not a native speaker too… I just came here for half a year.

naylin6 said what I wanted to say.

But as a ‘verb’, it is not called plural nor singular. It has to agree to the subject. For one quick example, “I” is not plural but the verb takes “live” since the subject is “I”!!

then whatr about this one

Jane Eyre could not marry Mr. Rochester until the fateful night when Grace Poole SET the mansion ablaze. No error

Why is SEt not SETS?

The action was done in the past, so “to set” takes the past form.

Future: He will set the table tomorrow.
Present: He sets the table every day before supper.
Past: He set the table yesterday.

so only present have s in the end?

^ Yes…
You will add helping verb or change the form of verb otherwise.
