why is UC transfer so hot?

I’m an international student admitted to UCSB. I was going for UCB but got rejected. So, transfer is pretty much my last resort. Anyway, I’m surprised that there are so many threads on this forum about UC transfer. Why is that? Is UC really that popular among domestic students or just in this forum? I mean there are schools even better than UCB. I’m not being inquisitive. This really concerns me considering the fact that more people brings more severe competition. Can someone please explain this matter to me?

California is the largest population state in the US, and it has a well defined and used path for students to attend community colleges and then transfer as juniors to UC (and CSU).

Note that private universities tend to be less transfer-friendly (for both admissions and financial aid) in general (although specific private universities of interest should be checked).

This forum is for UC transfers

Using Berkeley as an example, yes some schools may be better (Harvard, Stanford etc.), but when looking at the individual programs, Berkeley rivals the best in the nation in many fields. Engineering, Computer Science, Business, Economics, Math, and others that I can’t recall right now.

It extends to other UCs too. STEM majors at UCSD/UCLA and so on. It’s really an amazing thing that CA community college students get a decent chance to transfer into these top programs.

And of course, going to college in CA is attractive because of the locations(UCSB, UCSC, UCLA for ex.) UCLA gets the most applications of any school in the U.S. iirc (over 100k+).

California has the biggest population with the best public university system in the world.

An international student voicing concern over competition in the California university system…

…okay, enough internet for me today

“This really concerns me considering the fact that more people brings more severe competition.”

don’t worry, UC need more money from international studnets now more than ever.

yea we’re pretty hot.

5 out of top 10 public universities are the UC’s. Its much easier to transfer, less requirements, and it is a cheaper way.
