I ran into this site and I absolutely couldn’t believe the immaturity and rudeness of UCLA. I know the site’s nature but still it was a very long thread.

Is this a true representation of their school?

Immaturity and rudeness tends to brew on these Cal v. UCLA threads. The fact of the matter is that in most academic fields Cal is superior to UCLA (albeit the difference is not that much in many cases), and people quite naturally get ****ed when people talk about how their university is lacking (though I am not saying Cal doesn’t have any problems itself).

If one is basing their choice between the two schools solely on academic terms (i.e. ignoring all the other factors such as geography, fit, climate, etc.), Cal wins >90% of the time.

People have different preferences, some like UCLA better, some like Berkeley better. If we’re only talking about academics Berkeley is slightly better overall. But taking one person’s opinion and overgeneralizing it is a bit silly. With something like 25,000 UCLA undergrads there are plenty of secure and insecure UCLA students.

My personal view is that both UCLA & USC have a lot of work to do before they can reach Cal and Stanford, respectfully. I believe USC will most likely beat UCLA in the rankings in the near future because US NEWS methodology favors private universities. While, UCLA has been pretty stagnate in the 25th spot, as we have in the 21st spot (ERG!) USC has made some significant improvement and has reach UCLA’s level and I don’t think either of them should talk **** on each other.

The real question is, why is Berkeley so insecure that it has to put down other universities to make themselves feel better? If Berkeley was really secure, then they would not even care about other university’s rankings.
