People have been telling me that UNC at Chapel Hill has got the best mixture of strong academics and fun. But why is it so fun?

There is no major city nearby, the place looks quiet, am I missing something?

I don’t mean to be rude or anything, I am just very curious as I might be attending UNC for a year.

Thanks.

…what do u consider to be a “major city”?.. Raleigh is a pretty good size city, imo…

Haha saw my name. Ummmm why does a city make college fun? Just detracts in my opinion. UNC is probably one of the most fun colleges I’ve ever been to. It feels like Mardi Gras on Franklin Street, is absolutely beautiful, the students are laidback and friendly, and its one of the most active campuses socially I’ve ever seen. More is happening in Chapel Hill on a given weekend than in many big cities.

True, but don’t you find the campus a bit claustrophobic, or a bit socially tight if you know what I mean?

I mean, campus life is great and everything but there are going to be times when its going to get boring. And when it’s boring you’ll be stuck there with no cities to go to. But from what I’ve been hearing, it seems as if UNC is never boring.

And I was also wondering, how easy would it be for me to have fun at UNC? I’m from London and I’m Turkish. So that means I speak with an English accent, but I understand the party atmosphere (Exhibit A).

Thanks for the help.

Hey, don’t forget Halloween (Exhibit 4)! [YouTube - Halloween franklin street](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sjusPeaVtQ)

UNC social life definitely isn’t claustrophobic at all–I was really worried about that since I came from a high school that sends a lot of people to Carolina each year. However, the campus is big enough that you don’t have to hang out with high school acquaintances if you don’t want to, and you can still meet tons of new people at every party you attend & every time you go out (I made some last night!). And despite the immense social opportunity, I still run into friends ANYWHERE I walk on campus, so the atmosphere really feels like a community.
