Why isn't an adcom not replying to my email?

I had a clarification for my app, so I called her to see if I had to send a fax in. She didn’t answer. I sent an email. I got an automatic reply that she’s busy during the REA cycle and there may be a delay in reply. I called the actual office. They said: send the fax. I sent the adcom an email that said never mind, I called the main office and they told me to send the fax. I sent the fax.

And there is not a single reply from the adcom. It’s been like 3 weeks. It’s one of the top-tier schools (HYPSM). Does this mean I’m already rejected? I’m worried to death…Why not even a “OK. Thank you, I added it into your file?”

What’s so hard to understand about this? They’re extremely busy, don’t try to read more into it than there is.

It could also be this:

It may well be that the person you emailed doesn’t even handle those matters. That kind of task may be the job of work-study students.

Your situation was resolved; there is no reason the adcom should spend the several minutes calling you when the problem is resolved. I know in the optimal world, the polite thing is to call and confirm. But they are swamped right now, and 3 minutes of his/her time multiplied by 10-20 kids per day that may be doing the same thing is a big chunk of their time that they could be reading apps… It isn’t personal.

I really do hope that’s the case!! All this college stress is making me so nervous and anxious that I don’t know what to think anymore :(

Hang in there!
