Saving for your children’s college tuition won’t hurt their financial aid eligibility as much as many parents seem to think.

Interesting article. What has stood out the most for me is that Governor O’Malley and his wife have already borrowed $340,000 for two of their children to attend college and they’ve still got two younger children to attend. Their plan seems to be simply hoping - hoping that their younger two pick cheaper colleges and hoping that they’ll have the future income to repay it. That seems tremendously silly to me.
“Retirement accounts don’t count here”. I think that’s about the most important statement anyone can say about colleges and financial aid.
