"Why Me" Essays

I am currently writing a personal statement for a scholarship nomination, and we have to explain why we should be chosen. Does anyone have any advice for how to approach this type of essay? Typically for essays, I tell a story, but I'm not sure how to do that if I'm trying to tell someone why to nominate me. Should I simply tell them specific reasons and try to find a small example/story to back up each reason? I'm worried if I approach it by literally saying, "I would be a strong choice because....," it will be too standard.

Yes, telling stories is almost always a strong move for a convincing and memorable piece. Your story is meant to SHOW why they should reward you.

Think about the priorities of your readers and who they want to reward. Write the essay demonstrating those qualities in yourself.
