Why my kid chose Michigan's "non-elite" program

My daughter will be entering nursing school in the fall at U Michigan. One of the reasons she chose it over her other options was that at those schools we were told over and over that the nursing program was the " most elite" one at the university. Students who we talked to often described how they had to work “harder than anyone else” or “only nursing students and the engineers work so much”

. But when she asked students in the nursing program at U Michigan if they worked harder than other students they looked at her like she was crazy. EVERYONE works hard at Michigan she was told. That spoke volumes about the university for her. Moreover not once did the U Michigan nursing administration feel the need to tout the top notch program as " elite."

She knows she will be working hard in Michigan’s excellent program but she also knows that she won’t feel like she’s one of the only ones. ( which students at other schools told us they did).

All of Michigan’s programs are elite Maya, including Architecture, Music and Nursing. They are all considered among the top 10 programs in the nation, and are therefore elite.

@Alexandre. You missed my point. My daughter chose Michigan because all of its programs are excellent and unlike at 99 percent of the other school we visited the nursing program did not feel the need to tout itself as " elite" ( that’s why my “non- elite” was in quotes). At those other school it was pretty clear nursing students were going to be working harder than anyone else (a difficult position socially) while at Michigan they’d be working hard… just like everyone else. Get it now???

Gotcha…Maya. Yes, Michigan is exceptionally well rounded. Hundreds of departments and not a bum in the lot!
