Why no Stern/CAS dual-degree program?

As the title suggests, there is no way to get a B.A. from the CAS and a B.S. in Economics from Stern; only minors in either one college or the other are available. Does anyone feel this is ridiculous? I know that UMich Ann Harbor has the same limitations, but Penn allows a dual-degree program (not just the Huntsman program…but anyone who wants to and qualifies while there). This irks me.

stern is a 4 year business school, not 2 like most, being so, there is not as much time as there is elsewhere to fulfull requirement for a liberal arts degree. There is no way you would be able to fulfill CAS requirements and stern requirements, they have so few classes in common.

I was going to ask the same question about Steinhart, because of the music program. I actually wanted to double major in Music and some Business major, but unfortunately, NYU doesn’t offer it…

::sigh::

i have to give up my acceptance at the Eastman School of Music to go to Stern, and unfortunately, Stern isn’t making me feel better about it by NOT offering a dual degree program with steinhart.

Did you consider this program?

hhuang, have you looked into the Music Business program? It’s offered jointly between Stern and Steinhardt, though I’m not sure what degree you end up receiving.

Yeah that was the main issue when i applied to stern…

It just didn’t seem right for me. Basically, the reason i wanted the dual degree was because i really couldn’t decide what i wanted to do in life.

guess i’ll have ot wait and suffer a bit to see if i chose correctly lol

I say, take some Steinhardt classes you are interested in — the curriculum allows for it (though I do believe they restrict the number of credits taken in Steinhardt and Tisch). Since you are in Stern, internal transfers should be easier for you should you decide that Steinhardt is better for you.

I don’t know many people in Gallatin, but maybe you could find someone in the school to talk to — maybe you can put something together that feels best for you (once you figure out what you want to do).
