Why not financial Auditing?

Anyone know about auditing, what the work environment is like? Is more accounting based, or do they also hire a wide range of people (like i-banking/consulting)?

They are also firms that offer financial services. So Why isn’t financial auditing as “prestigious” as investment banking or consulting?

Any thoughts? Is it because starting salary is not as high?

auditors are treated like shiet

The hours aren’t as bad, the pay isn’t as good, and the position isn’t as selective.

Because becoming an auditor is relatively easy compared with becoming an IB or a consultant. The easier it is to get into something, the less “prestigious” it becomes. Also, auditors don’t make nearly as much as IBs or Consultants.

Look into the Big Four firms, they have jobs in every service line, audit, tax, and advisory (consulting). They do advisory work in almost every business section, investment banking, IT, financial, etc. Pay is still really good at a Big 4, college hires ranging from $50-60k.

There is nothing wrong with financial auditing or working for one of theese firms. They are in the client services industry (same as consulting) and experience with a Big 4 can open the door to many more opportunities. Typically the pay for client services firms are around the same (unless you have an advanced degree MBA/CFA/CIA/etc). One reason they aren’t as selective is because right now there is a huge demand for these professionals and if you are too selective you won’t be able to fully staff engagements.

It might seem that I’m plugging the vault guides quite a bit, but I found them to be the best resource while I was in college and job searching. http://www.vault.com/

Many years ago the auditors were at the company I worked for working through mounds of computer print outs when one of them suddenly screamed - and I do mean screamed - then yelled “I can’t stand this anymore” and ran out of the office never to return. I’m not sure what it says about the job.

Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) and increased focus on financial accountability is creating a tremendous demand for Financial/IT Auditing.

This is a link to Internal auditing.
