why people do drugs is beyond me --this should be a public service announcement!

while I do not think people should be jailed for drug use or possession…I do not understand how people do certain things like drugs…especially with outcomes like this!

Substitute alcohol for “spice” (and images of slumped over drunks for slumped over “spice” abusers) and you may be able to deduce the answer.

Well, sometimes people take these drugs as a way to deal with pain. Herion use is soaring because it is much cheaper and easier to get than many prescription pain meds. That is is illegal is an inconvenience to those who deal with chronic pain. Kids with ADD sometimes take illegal drugs as a way to deal with issues steming from ADD, esp when prescription drugs aren’t so readily available.

People do drugs because it makes them feel good. Unfortunately they then get addicted and they have to have it. We all know thus.

Why do so many of us need to feel no pain? Even when leading to so much greater pain? It makes no sence.

Most people I know from my generation tried drugs when they were in school. Most didn’t become addicts. Some did and it’s unpredicable as to who those will be. Many teenagers in particular, do not have a particularly good sense of their own mortality also assume nothing will happen to them. Unfortunately many time such is not the case.

Drug use is complicated, but the basic answer is with drugs, whether alcohol or other forms of drugs, it often is people seeking to self med problems away. One of the eye openers that has (sadly) happened, is people in rural areas, who once saw drug use as something “those people did” , are suddenly seeing a huge problem with drugs as economically and otherwise many areas are experiencing what, for example, has been in the inner city. Among people who are LGBT, drug abuse is pretty common, and a lot of that has to do with the way they often are treated or wresting with self hate after being told all their lives that being LGBT was a sin or something bad. The irony is the drug use among more affluent kids, several high schools in very affluent towns not far from where I live in NJ, where the typical household is very, very well off, have big problems with drug use, and these days it is no longer pot or even cocaine, they are having problems with heroin use as a recreational drug (why is still up in the air, besides having the means to buy it, some suggest it is that the kids are suffering from the boredom of affluenza or have too much material stuff and not enough parenting…whatever the cause, it is real).

What is scaring people is the kind of drugs. When I was growing up, it was mostly pot or hash, coke was too expensive and heroin was, at least where I grew up. These days it is things like heroin or cocaine, and worse, things like Oxyconteine (hopefully I spelled it right) and other opiate based pain killers, it is the level of drug use that worries them.
Kind of like asking why the athlete or entertainer who suddenly ‘makes it’ ends up on drugs, you would figure they had it made, and they end up going off the deep end…
