<p>I’ve always thought that learning how to write is about learning the rules, then figuring out how to break them. The problem is that most high school curricula seem to stop on the first step.</p>
<p>My sister, who is a freshman at Georgia Tech, sent me her first college paper a couple of weeks ago. The intro was a frickin’ “According to Webster’s…” How that hasn’t been hammered out of her mind is beyond me.</p>
<p>There again, Georgia Tech’s reputation isn’t really based on its English program.</p>
