Some one once told me that you If i wanted to be a mover and shaker and heart breaker. A school that wants to establish its self? Does it not seem like a perfect place for leaders to come and help put Merced on the map. I am not sure why but I am a bit partial to this school. I attend UCI but recently went to Merced to do research, And i am considering this school for grad school in mathematics. WHy? well its soo easy to get involved and work with the professors. So here is my post.

Interesting post. I am curious as to where it will progress in the next 20-30+ years. I think that the less than ideal location and budget crisis is slowing down the development of Merced.

Merced will make a huge name for itself and this year is growing huge.I am going into engineering Fall for all the reasons above

I loved the location since it has a lot land to grow. Very nurturing and relaxed atmosphere.

The budget cuts appear to be less than say UCLA. My friend does CE at UCLA and complains about how its hard to get classes you need due to alternate class times being eliminated.

UCM is smaller in population at roughly 3200. UCLA’s is about 31056. So the student teacher ratio and class times have not taken a big hit yet.

At love4learning:
Which clubs do you see lacking at Merced that should be there? Which clubs do you think people would really want to get interested in and join but arent there yet? and if they arent there yet then why arent they there? lol!

Thank you :)

@MGMT123, I’m not at UCM yet. I just visited and did some research on the campus and talked to students about the campus.

This might help with your question about clubs

If CPP doesn’t accept me, I will definately be at UCM as a junior for Fall 2010 :)

@ love4learning, oh cool I’m planning on attending UCM as well, but as a freshman lol :)

I completely disagree. UCM is in a prime location. It’s in an area in need of economic help and where there are absolutely no research universities in the area. UCM is already attracting a lot of attention in the local community because it is the first research institution in the central valley. Furthermore, while the budget crisis is happening, many of the funds to build and expand UCM have already been allocated. I’m not too familiar with the details of how budgeting works, but hopefully a business-savvy user here can fill in the blanks for me. I would also like to point out that decades ago, UC Davis was in the exact same spot we were in. It was built in a mostly desolate location, and truthfully it had a bad prestige reputation when building up as a university, but now it’s considered one of the “best” universities and arguably the best UC for biology. I have confidence that given the right amount of time, UCM will achieve the same success.
