Why UChicago doesn’t look at the diversity when it comes to making the admission decision or taking students from a particular country? I know this sounds crazy but there have been almost no one from my country who have been accepted to UChicago (I know one who is currently studying at UChicago-he was accepted from waitlist, and another who already graduated long time back). But, in the history of more than 120 years, UChicago has accepted only very few students from my country. People have been regularly accepted to HYPSM every year but, when it comes to UChicago, the stats is so heartbreaking. The same people who get accepted in so many ivy’s at a time get rejected from UChicago. Why UChicago why?

P.S. I am from Nepal and I hope I will be among the very few to attend UChicago from my country.

P.P.S. I wouldn’t care about any ivy decisions if I get into UChicago.

@rubi32: yes, that is absolutely true and I agree with you. But, my question was different. I was trying to ask why does UChicago doesn’t accept the same student who are accepted in so many ivy league schools. Is it simply because of financial need or there are other reasons.

Yes, there is a factor of financial need. HYPM are need blind admission for international students while UChicago is not.

However, I would not say UChicago does not look at diversity. Quite the opposite, perhaps the one from your country who is currently studying at UChicago was accepted off waitlist because UChicago looked at the diversity and decided in favored of someone from under represented country. I dont know the exact numbers, but I doubt there are much more than a handful students got accepted to UChicago each year from countries like China or India which has a huge student population.

It is not unusual that a student accepted to HYPMS or ivies got rejected from UChicago. Same the other way around. Rather, it is VERY unusual that a student got accepted by all HYPMS, ivies and UChicago.

If anything Chicago lags behind the Ivies in international diversity. That may be why students from OP’s country Nepal haven’t be admitted as frequently as elsewhere. Further, Chicago is big on China.

@hangover2012 it just probability. The probability is low. I don’t think the first thing they look at is the country you are from. That would be the last and it would show in your writing.
