Why UC's produce so many med school applicants each year?

When looking at the AAMC published 2015 top applicants undergrad feeder schools, UC’s are on the top (UCLA 961, UC Berkeley 819, UCSD 571, UC Irvine 431). NY state (Stony Brook 274, Binghamton 216) is not even close. Does it mean UC’s have much bigger pre-med population, and is easier to get to the application stage than other states?

Yes. Remember, California is the most populous state in the country, and has very good public schools

No. I mean maybe it is, but that data certainly doesn’t say that.

The UCs have traditionally been the premed schools, while the CSUs and Cal Polys have not.

Calif’s population also influences the numbers.

UC also seem to have a good number of students whose families seem to think that there are only a few viable career choices…doctor, engineer, pharmacy and a few others. We see that here on CC…students whose parents are very picky about what their majors are and what their career goals are.
