Okay, I’m not trying to sound pretentious or anything but for an in-class open argument essay I got an 8 even though I feel like I should’ve gotten a 9. My teacher wrote in the comments that I used “a plethora of evidence and that it maybe should’ve been a 9”. However, she later told me that people only get 9’s on that essay if they “sound philosophical”. Is this true? I’m only wondering becasue I haven’t seen that on any rubrics for the open argument essay.

She also said “the evidence is too varied; you seem like a jack of all trades and the ap exam wants a master”. To which I said, “All of my evidences are historical and have to deal with the Civil Rights Movement,”. She then replied, “well your evidence isn’t varied enough then,”. So which is it?!

Honestly, a 9 essay is super rare. You most likely won’t get a 9 unless there are 0 mistakes. Like, a 9 is actually perfection. I’d be extremely satisfied with an 8.
