Wibstr

why is it that my tour guide didn’t know what wibstr was when I asked him after the tour?
Doesn’t everybody know? I mean even I know now!

Because he probably goes to Mudd. West is best screw the rest. GO POLY!

did he smell funny and ask about WoW? could have been an eastie.

Maybe he was just too polite to tell you, especially if there were still parents around after the tour. Or maybe he wasn’t a Westie. Why would Mudders from the other dorms care to share that slogan…

no. i asked him after the tour personally because I saw it on a different website and was really curious what it stood for
and yeah, there’s no reason for other dorms to know it. But just thought it was weird that he wouldn’t know that. (I mean I saw that written with a chalk on the ground during the tour) He was also a sophomore. hmmm. perhaps he was an eastie

and by the way
<a href=“east vs west - High School Life - College Confidential Forums”>east vs west - High School Life - College Confidential Forums;

Just had to use that

WIBSTR is a West thing, not a Mudd thing. If he was from an outer dorm, he might not be tuned into some of the inner dorms’ lore. If he was from an inner dorm that isn’t West, he might know but not care to tell you. And if he was from West, from what I’ve heard, he might not have been sober enough to remember it at the time. :p

LOL Geek_mom. Ehhh, if a visiting HS student ask me that question I’d probably be like … Why do you wanna know … West blahhh

I think WIBSTR is pretty well known on campus. I would say that at least 75% of students have heard of it. Case even uses the slogan CIPACS (Case is perhaps a close second) in reference to WIBSTR. It was likely that your tour guide was just out of the loop (the tour guides are not screened based on their campus knowledge). Some students at Mudd live in more restrictive social bubbles than others.

@geek_mom, though it is true that a lot of Westies drink, I think you would be surprised how studious the dorm is. In fact, at least one survey showed West has the best average GPA in the school. In the three years I have been involved in the dorm, I don’t think an active freshman in the dorm has failed out, which is something a rarity. The reason why a lot (though surely not all) Westies are so crazy is because they are working so hard all the time. They channel all their stress into a small amount of free time. That (and tradition) are why the courtyard is such a mess all the time, why we break things and why we have a reputation for partying. If you talk to Mudd professors (especially in engineering) I think you will hear that many of their best students have been from West.

^ I thought West was cool when I toured, even though it was a mess. I mean I’d have to get used to that being at a school with mostly boys lol. At first I was like, I’m so living there if i get in.

What worried me though was that this poor guy was asleep in south dorm because his room at west got turned into a bar. I felt really bad. Is it really hard to get rest/ study on a friday/saturday night at west?

^^

I thought CIPACS referred to the statement “West serves the best mixers,” which is why Ive only seen CIPACS as a drink. Or is it broader than that?

I lived at West for 2.5 years. It was fun at times but I didn’t really jive with some of the people in my class in the early days and thus it was a living hell at times. This changed about 1.5 years in. I started to make friends and got involved in the scene. I ended up retiring to Linde senior year and we still did some crazy $hit though I think I got along with the people more. They were a lot more “chill-crazy” rather than “crazy-crazy”.

It was kinda fun living in a $hit-hole though. It is like camping…

…AND things have gotten fairly tame since my freshman year. We did stuff that was much more disturbing and dangerous than we should probably talk about here. I got a nickname LMFCK, though won’t ever explain it.

AND I have to say: TQ Night 2006 was a night that changed my life. It is when I was approached by a legendary alum that had heard of my interests and told me about this secret company that he works at… and I should apply for an internship. Well, I applied for an internship (3 times!) but never got it but somehow I landed the full-time permanent engineering position… and that is where I currently work and will likely be for quite some time.

“Case is perhaps a close second,” bestowed by West. I don’t know why you would be proud of that and wear it on T-shirts, but I don’t live in Case and they throw great parties, so whatever.
