Wicked Storms on the eastern seaboard

^see - this is where we need a hug button.

@FlyMeToTheMoon , wow…Philadelphia news is showing the damage there ( hope the Amish don’t know they are being filmed ) What a mess ! I see a lot of trees down and that type of thing , but I am not aware of any major damage in Cape May County…Cumberland County had some more serious damage.

Howled and poured in my part of New England, too. Not much actual thunder and lightning. We do get heavy rains in March.

here in the Chesapeake Bay section of Maryland, I got an emergency alert on my phone “tornado rapidly approaching the area, take cover now” and spent the next few hrs in the closet with the dogs. We stayed under warnings till 11pm last night. No serious damage, but alot of frayed nerves.

@lje62, they are already showing pictures of the Amish rebuilding the school! The Amish are just amazing. They will have everything rebuilt in short order.

We could all take some lessons from the Amish , that’s for sure. I love your area , BTW . You are lucky to have such amazing craftsmen at your doorstep

sistersunnie, I was so nervous with the weather forecasts that I insisted my husband install the weather channel app on his phone and iPad …good thing he did too because he got the same warning on his devices just as he was approaching an area where tornadoes touched down and did some destruction.
My daughter and her friend ( go to Towson U ) went out without knowing they were in the path of heavy storms. I was following the radar because I was worried about my husband and when I saw what was happening there, it made me even more worried.

Last Friday when we had a horrific wind storm in the Chicago area, we lost about three dozen shingles off of our roof and I thought, “We won’t see wind like that again for a long time.” Hmmm. JINK! Yesterday was our moving day. They were able to pull the moving van up to the garage to load our stuff, but by the time they got to the condo to unload, it was just nasty - we had one new item delivered via a shipping company (a new door), and it was a beast to get inside because the wind kept catching it, even though two guys were carrying it. The movers really struggled with some of the bigger pieces! They earned their keep yesterday! But we barely even managed a dusting of snow… just wind.

I live in maryland, and last night’s drive home from work was as bad as any I can remember. Just as I hit our neighborhood, the power went out and was only on for about 5 minutes of the next four hours. We hardly ever lose power.

It was pretty wild where I live in NJ, not a lot of damage, but heavy wind, rain and booming thunderstorms, which I can’t ever remember seeing in February, it felt like a May rainstorm. This whole winter has been more than a bit weird, trees and plants flowering in January, and weather more suited for spring and summer than winter.

In a matter of 15 minutes it went from light to pitch dark over here with dark clouds during evening rush hour in NoVA.
We just made it home and then it started pouring rain very heavily. On top of that the winds were very strong.
Glad we made it home in time. Fortunately we maintained power but there were some tornado watches.

My last thought before falling asleep last night was: The strangest thing about thunderstorms in February, is that thunderstorms in February don’t seem so strange anymore.

And here’s my English teacher pedantic comment on the thread:

It’s lightning, not lightening! Lightning! Lightening is what happens when you bleach your hair, or the sun comes up.

<ducking!></ducking!>

I have witnessed thunder during snowstorms , but it was more like a distant rumbling…bout 35 years ago, we had a full on blizzard in mid- April , complete with thunder. I recall going to bed with no power or heat and waking up overly warm when it came back on during the night. This has certainly been one weird winter

I was driving in the worst of it last night. My BIL died unexpectedly so I was picking up my youngest at the metro station so she could see her dad before he left, then we all took him to the airport in it. Dark, windy, sheeting rain but the roads were find. We never lost power.

I miss the days when CC allowed a geographic location with your name and post count. :((

Sorry for your loss cap

If that was me, autocorrect happens a lot with me…you should see my Siri text conversations. You would think she knows me well enough to spell my husband’s name correctly

It was crazy here too…but very love.y today. Still…power was out in a bunch of places…and several, schools, were closed because of that. Our lights didn’t even blink…but whew…it was windy…and rainy.
