Wien or McBain Single?

Okay, I need some advice –

So, I was given a large Wien single (147sf) as my room for this upcoming year. Yesterday, I received a call from housing telling me that a room had opened in McBain – also a single (137 sf) – facing 113th St (which is also unfortunately right across the hall from the guys’ bathroom). I could switch to this new room if I so desired. I have to let housing know by tomorrow.

Basically, I’ve read bad things about both dorms. Though, in regards to Mcbain, it’s mostly been negative reviews about rooms in the shaft.

Right now I’m leaning more towards McBain because it’s all sophomores, I’m coming in as a sophomore, and it may make the social aspect of transferring a bit easier. Also, there is a kitchen and laundry room on the floor. However, some positive points for Wien are that it seems to be a little less rowdy and closer to academic buildings.

Which room would you say is the better option, considering living conditions, location, and other advantages/disadvantages?

Well I don’t know about McBain (isn’t it known as the sophomore carman?) but socially Wien is pretty dead if that’s important to you. Aside from the fact that you can hear the guy next door grunt in self-pleasure (seriously) I’ve never seen much social interaction fostered by the environment. People who have friends there generally didn’t meet them by being floormates. Hope that helps.

sigh …Housing. Mine’s fine I guess but I’m getting at that point where I would fellate someone to trade into a Watt single studio. Communal bathrooms lose their charm at 21.

I would go with Wein. McBain is cool, especially if you want to get more of a ‘city living’ experience because of its location.

Liion, are you going to be a Senior?

Not quite yet; a Junior.

If you are transferring in, you probably want to be in mcbain more than wein, although it really depends on your RAs and the other people on the floor. Mcbain is younger and more of a party dorm for sure. Wein is more of a loner dorm, so figure out whether you can deal with the noise in Mcbain, if you can I’d say definitely M. I have had a friend return from study abroad and stay at wein in the spring, he really did not get to know his floor much at all.
