Wild Shot?

Okay, here it goes:
I went to talk to my counselor recently and she told me I needed more reach schools. I went to visit Stanford last summer and I thought it was beautiful and the people there were great and I thought that I would really enjoy the school. I really liked the campus. I know (trust me) that Stanford is a wild, crazy shot for me. However, most people do have that one crazy school that they apply to just for the heck of it to see if they can get in. So I’m not going to fall apart if I don’t make it because I’m also going to apply to other schools I’d be more than happy at. I just wanted to see realistically how I would fare.

Academics:
-I am a junior and I have a 4.0 GPA weighted and a 3.75 unweighted.
-I go to a very rigorous private Catholic school. Most people only take a few AP classes. It’s suicide to do ALL AP classes and I have never seen it done.
-I’m taking AP Spanish Language this year and next year I will take AP 3D, AP English, AP Government and AP Spanish Language
-Class Rank: Not sure but I made the Principal’s Honor Roll so I’m pretty sure I’m in the top 10%
-ACT: 29
SAT: 1910 (first time, went in cold without studying to see how I would do. Going to retake in June)
Subject tests: Going to take Spanish with Listening and Literature

Extracurricular:
-I have also been a Girl Scout for the past 11 years and I have earned my Gold Award organizing baking at the Ronald McDonald House (a place for the families of sick children in hospitals).
-I am in National Honors Society, National Art Honors Society and CSF.
-I volunteer at a mostly Latino school to teach kids math and help them with homework after school. About 3 hours a week.
-I have about 200 service hours so far but I’m definitely hoping to get many more.
-I have played guitar since I was in 8th grade and it takes up the spare moments I have in my week. :). I go with my teacher every weekend.
-Going to get a job as soon as I get my liscense (end of March)

Awards:
-Principal Honor Roll Award
-Presidental Service Award(s)
-Bronze, Silver, and Gold Girl Scout Award.

Extra (I guess my “hook”):
I am also billingual Latina. Spanish was my first language, and even though I am now fully fluent and successful, I went into school not knowing a word of English. My parents are immigrants from Bolivia and El Salvador. I am going the be the first in my family to go to college.

I think that it is best to take a shot just to see if I can get in. Of course I’d be thrilled if I got in but if I don’t, at least I tried. Thanks :)

being hispanic will help you, as will having english as your second language and being first generation. you gotta gotta bring that SAT up alot. at least a couple hundred points if you want to have a realistic shot. but you have plenty of time to fix that. and make more A’s. but your ec’s seem nice. i think with a little work you’ll have a good shot. ok good luck

Yeah I was kinda of unhappy with my SAT but I’m going to study alot and try to bump it up. I have to study alot :)
