I just find that my total units are 77 after this summer. And it will be 94 units after this coming fall if everything goes well.
And I will still need to take 2,3 courses to complete my transfer requirement in the spring. It will definitely go over a hundred. Just wonder if there is a cap or limit on the units in community college (PCC). And will it affect my admission?
background story:
In the first year of my community college life, there were not too many choice. Those courses for my major were not available for new students. So I took some courses for fun, such as Japanese, Psychology and statistic. I did well in Japanese. Somehow I took 4 semesters of Japanese(20 units). And I enjoyed learning different things. I still want to take some music class. However my major is computer engineering. By now I’ve completed 80% of the requirement for my major. And I find the amount of units is going to exceed 100 after this fall. I’m quite worried about it
If you intend to transfer to a UC or CSU, you will get from community colleges at most 70 semester units toward the 120 semester units for bachelor’s degree graduation, but all courses taken will count for subject credit.
UCs have restrictions on admitting high unit junior or senior level transfers, but if all of your units are non-UC lower division units (which is true of all community college units), then at most 70 semester units are counted here, so you will not be a high unit junior or senior level transfer. See http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/uc-transfer-maximum-limitation-policy-chart.pdf .
Other schools may have different policies.
I’m transferring from a CC to UIUC this fall, and I have 110 credits at my CC. Basically all of my courses have been accepted as transfer credit. However, I have to complete a minimum of 60 credits actually on the UIUC campus, which won’t be an issue for me. Schools typically have different policies on these things, but it shouldn’t usually be a negative factor.
