Will a 4.0 help for CSULB or SFSU?

<p>Ok so, I can’t really find an answer to this so here:
Throughout my High School Year, I improved from Freshmen year to Junior Year. While I’m in my first semester of Junior, I’m positive that I’ll do very well. During my Freshmen year I had a D in Spanish 1P for both semesters and an F in English 1H for both Semesters. I have retaken Spanish 1 and got an A both semesters and retaken English 1H in summer school and got an A and got everything a C- or above during Sophomore Year. However, I’m worried because of my GPA is low, for my standards, but I dont know how colleges will see it. My GPAs are : (W) 9-12: 2.50 and (W)10-12: 2.90. If I get a 4.0, for the first time, will it help my chances getting into CSULB or SFSU? I’m currently taking Chemistry, English 3P, US History P, Spanish 2, and Algebra 2. And also, getting a 1000 on the SAT (Reading and Math only) . I don’t really know my chances of getting into college.</p>

<p>In Senior year, I’m planning to take: Trig, AP Biology,AP Psychology, Choir(or Piano), Spanish 3, and English 4P and APCivic/Econ… Will they look at senior year also? Because I’m taking my first AP classes.</p>

<p>What do you guys think of my chances of getting into CSULB,SFSU,and SJSU?</p>

<p>I’m sorry for any incorrect English, I’m really tired lol.</p>

<p>Cal States do not use 9th grades in their GPA calculation see link <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/&lt;/a&gt;
but will look at all your grades for the a-g courses including an upward trend. All the Cal states use the eligibility index for acceptance (except SLO) do the higher the better for GPA and SAT. After your Junior year, calculate your eligibilty index<br>
(CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT math + Critical reading). Depending your intended major, a EI of 4000 is good. </p>

The CSUs (except SLO) only look at your GPA from academic classes during grades 10 and 11. I think they also allow you to replace the grade of a re-taken course so, you could be in much better shape (GPA wise) than you think.

Use the formula and GPA calculator provided by @Gumbymom to calculate your index.

With a 2.9 CSU GPA and 1000 SAT, your index would be 3320.

The thresholds change a little each year but for CSULB, a 3800 will probbaly do the trick, SFSU, around 3300, SJSU varies widely by major.Last year’s results can be found here: http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-10079.11705.html

A few others that are probably in your range are SacState, Sonoma and maybe Northridge. Your local CSU and all the non-impacted campuses would also take you. (Channel Islands, Monterrey, etc)

As long as you complete the A-G requirements, CSUs also don’t care too much about Sr year course rigor. I’d suggest you drop one or two of the APs next year (maybe Bio and Psych) and enjoy yourself a bit.

Be sure you compete the A-G course requirements of you will be disqualified regardless of GPA, etc.

Good luck.
