<p>So I screwed up 9th grade with like a 89 avg, 10th grade with like a 94, and 11th with like a 98. overall my avg is gunna end up as a 94 with a 2250 or possibly 2300 (based on practice tests). Also I am hispanic as I know that might help. My school is pretty bad with one kid going to the ivys every few years and my courses would be considered most rigorous. (going to come out with every ap my school offers and a few more by the end-10 aps overall). Also my ecs are decent I think- JV and Varsity Hockey as the goalie, soccer for 2 years, math team, chess team, and robotics team.Besides this I went to harvard ssp and will be getting a letter of rec from my chem proffesor from the summer, do you think that will make a big difference?.Basicly will my 94 keep me out of the ivys? Also have a 770 on chem subject test and will have a 750+ for physics. chance me for

<p>Your grades don’t mean anything without the proper context. At a grade inflated American school, a 94% average might put you in the 80th percentile. In a Canadian school, a 94% average would likely make you the valedictorian.</p>
<p>Or rather, a Canadian school outside Ontario… since Ontario high schools inflate as much as in the US. </p>
<p>In Alberta and Quebec, one can be a valedictorian with less than a 94% average. I mean, in my high school class in Quebec, the valedictorian had a 92% average; however, in CEGEP, which is laden with college-level courses, I had a ~85% average and still was in the top 7%…</p>

<p>Catria, I was the salutatorian in Alberta with around a 93% average. Ontario is probably worse than the USA. I read that 40% of their students graduate with an A average.</p>

GPA padding is also commonplace at my school, where many students take a great quantity of “easy” AP classes (Environmental Science, Human Geography, etc.) to raise their class rank. This looks great when one observes the stats (a 94 in spuding102’s case), but colleges are NOT impressed.</p>

<p>Yes my 94 is unweighted and would be considered 9th in a class of 120. My school does not do weighted averages so people who take really easy classes count the same as my ap classes and my harder classes. For instance all my courses are honors and I will have taken 7 aps (the most I can take from my school) and 3 that I did by my self (college classes and self study) Also im looking to ED to a school that will give me a nice boost for admission; I think that I will like any school I go to to be honest)</p>

<p>The fact that you got 94% means you made 6% of mistake. 6% is A LOT of mistake in real life! So I would not lose all hope yet, but I would not be too optimistic either…</p>

<p>If anything will keep you away from high tier schools it would be your ECs in my opinion</p>
<p>Leadership positions and high awards from competitions are pretty common for top tier school applicants</p>

<p>Peter, your school likely suffers from grade inflation as well, and I highly doubt that you know anything about real life.</p>
<p>I mean I do have sports ecs and academic. As for leadership wouldn’t being the goalie count?</p>
