Will a pilot's license help my chances?

I’m not even a senior yet, but I was wondering if having a pilot’s license (which I will obtain once I turn 17) will help me get into MIT…I dunno, I still have a ways to go, but grades and rank are not a problem (~1 or 2/300 and I have other EC’s, too…just wondering…does it also help that I am a girl? (flying tends to be quite male-oriented in my experiences)

It’d help catch their eye, but I doubt it would provide much of a boost in admissions. I’m not sure of the process of obtaining a pilot’s license, but if it’s anything like a driver’s license only for rich people, i doubt it will have much effect other than a raised eyebrow or two. Consider that most… vast majority… do not have the means to… uh… fly planes in their free time. Though it’s a very interesting hobby indeed.

I think a pilot’s license is pretty hard to get. You’ve got to study aeronautics and have enough flying hours. It also depends on what license it is–a helicopter or private plane license. I remember that a helicopter license is easier to get? Correct me if I’m wrong. But, overall, I think having a pilot’s license is pretty impressive.

It’s a private plane pilot’s license

Yes, having a pilot’s license is pretty impressive. It is nothing like getting an expensive drivers license. It can only help in admissions, but how much I can’t say.

On an unrelated side note, from what I have heard, getting a helicopter license is significantly harder than a private plane license. I mean, a helicopter is greatly more complex to fly, nothing AT ALL like an airplane. Oh well, I’m afraid I can’t say for sure since I actually haven’t taken the tests, just my two cents. :)

oh, wow. i have no idea if that’ll help you, but it definitely sounds really really cool! =)

i think it will look stand-out nicely, but it wont necessaly bumping your chance significantly.

well i dont know how you get yours, but i could(and liked to but i couldnt) get a license, if i had money(a lot more than a private high school) and time(1-2 years) to attend a flight school.
