So just for the hell of it, I reread my personal statement this morning and caught a typo - it said “to” instead of the intended “too” and my word processor didn’t catch it. Neither did I, apparently.

Here’s the exact sentence: It all just seemed to shallow and made no sense to me.

I feel like a complete IDIOT. I submitted my app a week ago… and I understand there is no way of editting it. Do you think this will completely screw me out of my chances of getting in? I’m so nervous right now I couldn’t possibly explain.

Haha, I seriously doubt that a small typo will screw up your chances.

And yes, I think you definitely have a chance at Rutgers. In terms of SAT scores…see for me I would be happy if I even got that score (my horrible 1630), but what the heck, retake them!

But seriously, “to” instead of “too” will not make you a rejectee. Just as long as your essay didn’t have too many mistakes : )

Ah what a relief it is to hear that. Thanks so much!

No, I don’t have ANY other typos or grammatical errors. I just read over my essay a million times to make sure.
There are no errors anywhere else on the application either.

And I’m retaking SAT scores for my personal satisfaction, I already sent that 2040 to Rutgers.

It’s funny because I googled this issue and found an article written by a college advisor saying that one small typo purposefully made on your college application may get you in… something about authenticity? I’m not sure I believe that though haha
