I just finished 6 credits of a 12 credit certificate program. Unfortunately, I received a C+ in a class and it dropped my GPA (only based on the 2 courses I just finished) below a 3.0, so I was academically suspended.
I can appeal it and try for one more semester on probation, but I struggled in the one class and I have to take that professor again. I don’t think I’ve ever tried so hard in a class, but nothing I wrote for that professor was good enough and I honestly don’t have confidence in doing better in his class. I talked to several other students, the ones that stayed after the withdrawal date, and they all received similar grades. The reviews of him online were right; I wish I could’ve taken another professor lol.
Anyways, I eventually plan to apply to graduate school for some sort of rehab therapy, most likely OT. Will an academic suspension on my transcript prevent me from being considered?
It’s a certificate on gerontology. Obviously I will encounter patients of geriatric age, this certificate focuses more on programs and services (such as Social Security and recreational activities) that are available to older adults.
Before you take the class again, why don’t you make and appointment to talk to the professor. Try to find out what he expected from the writing assignments. Take the paper(s) in and ask him to go over it with you and explain what’s missing and what could do to make it a better paper. Don’t be defensive–just say you want to learn something and then be quiet and let the prof do the talking. That will be very difficult, but if you are quiet you may learn something about what the prof wants to see in your written assignments. What was the quote–insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result? You need a new approach.
