I am vice-president of a pretty strange club… we discuss nerdy TV shows and movies during lunch time. The club may be strange and certainly isn’t going to change the world or anything, but it is important to me and takes a lot of time to organize.
Should I list it as one of my top activities, or will colleges be put off by something so unusual?
Those same kind of “strange” and “nerdy” clubs exist in college, believe it or not. Things like the Doctor Who clubs, My Little Pony clubs, Harry Potter clubs, and on and on. The colleges will see that you have leadership skills, interpersonal skills, and a way to contribute to the life of the college campus once you arrive, by joining or starting similar clubs there.
Trust me, your club sounds infinitely more interesting than another Leadership Club, that much I can tell you.
These are the kinds of activities that colleges love.
One caution is that this type of club doesn’t usually “take a lot of time to organize”, so you will want to be specific about the substance of your club activities.
