Will an Essay that Worked At Harvard Help at Other Colleges?

Question: This question may seem weird but for example,is it true that an application essay that got accepted by Harvard means a small college for example Phoenix, Toledo,… would accept that essay?

WHAT DID “THE DEAN” SAY?

Obviously if it’s the common app essay than the following doesn’t apply but any essay that is school specific should try to tailor itself in some way to the school - not just the question itself. An essay that talks about how great a fit one is for Harvard would not describe how someone is a great fit for Phoenix or Toledo since they are not Harvard. If you could replace Harvard with Phoenix or Toeldo and the essay still made sense than it wasn’t a particularly great essay to begin with.

I’d give a very resounding “NO” on this one. Perhaps if the essay prompt is similar enough, but admissions essays are often more specific to the school. It might work for Harvard and fail anywhere else.

Regardless, what does or does not work at Harvard should not be used as a metric by which to judge all other schools.
