Hey guys,
I searched everywhere, from College Conf to UMich’s website to other random websites, and still couldn’t find any information on my question. Is it likely for an OOS to get a decent amount of finaid from UMich? I’ve heard that UMich’s financial aid is alot like UCBerkeley’s, and especially since I would apply RD, I’m afraid I won’t even be considered for (decent) financial aid.
Thanks!

Federal aids are fine. Grant from UM would be limited to OOS anyway. Merit Scholarships are mostly for EA admitted students (or at least those admitted by early Feb).
@billcsho Do you think I would get less grant money from UM as an RD applicant than if I applied EA? How big of a difference do you think that would be?
YES YOU WILL. I received excellent financial aid as did my brother. The “unmet need” was easily covered by a student loan. There are also Provost Scholarships from OOS with high need. It simply isn’t true that Michigan FA isn’t good.
@Zeppelin7 You should still get around the same amount as calculated with NPC. However, they sometimes offer additional grant money to fill the gap. That is in limited amount though. Note that they only guarantee to meet the need of in state students. Many low income OOS students do receive generous aids too. Those from OOS in the grey area (between $35k and $65k household income) may receive aids depending on the availability of that pool. Once you are deferred, there is no difference from other RD applicants. Nevertheless, the earlier admitted students will still have a better chance to receive better aid.
