Any suggestions for matches, reaches, safties???

Give me some idea guys, im really clueless about choosing a college.

Wait until you take the SAT.

Your question is pretty ambiguous. What do you consider a “decent college”? I think all colleges in the top 5-20 are decent, whereas others might look at those as extremely competitive schools.

I live in the Midwest so I was thinking about schools like Case, CM, U of Mich, UVA, William & Mary, Lehigh, and Northwestern. As far as those schools go, what are my chances with my current situation?

Dear, you still have a WHOLE year before you really, truly have to worry about these things. Don’t kill yourself too early!

Take the SAT. You’ll probably improve 100 points or more, just from being a junior and learning tips.

You still have a YEAR to boost your grades up. Your cumulative GPA will be just fine come senior year. Especially if your school weights AP classes (and many do).

Also, for a sophomore, you’re pretty active. I know alot of people with 3.8s and 3.9s and they do nothing. So not only are you making yourself competitive early, but you’re doing things you really care about. It’s not ALL about GPA or SATs with the more competitive colleges/universities.

And what do you mean by decent? There are thousands of “decent” schools across the nation that would pay you big bucks to attend their college. So don’t just think of HYPS, UCB or any of the colleges hailed so greatly as the only good colleges out there.

Good luck ! :)

You just need to improve your grades to 3.7 (esp for Northwestern, the most competitive out of the schools you listed) and have an SAT of around 2100 to have a great shot at the some of those schools. But your EC’s are very good for a sophomore…just keep on working on them, perhaps pursue your math talent some more. If you can do even better on the AMC, that would certainly help.

But for now: concentrate on improving your grades and SAT.

Thanks for all the great advice.
