<p>My grades went in a downward spiral. And it’s left at that. I know this looks bad to colleges.</p>
<p>Sophomore year: All A’s and I took AP Human Geography. I had a 4.2 GPA. </p>
<p>Junior year: First semester of junior year I got 1 A and 5 B’s. Second semester of junior year I got 1 A and 5 B’s again. I took 3 APs each semester. </p>
<p>Exam scores: My AP HUG exam score was a 4. I’m predicting a 4 on the APUSH, a 2 on the English exam, and a 3/4 on the AP Art History exam I recently took. </p>
<p>Extracurriculars: Officer for VSA for 2 years, started a bi-lingual YouTube makeup channel, got a salesperson job at a Skin Clinic (requires fluency in English and Vietnamese), community service hours at temple. I’m planning to write my personal statement on helping out my community as well. </p>
<p>I want to get into a UC. I do not like commuter schools and I heard it applies to a lot of Cal States. </p>
<p>I was going to apply through UCR’s GAP program after I found out about it, but I didn’t take the SAT yet! I’m pretty sure I can score above 1600 because I took practice tests from the blue book and I got 1700+. </p>
<p>Okay here goes the explanation. Some of these are facts and some are just guesses. I got the grades that I did junior year because of I had some personal problems and with some of the people at school, but I doubt that’s an excuse. Plus I am much better at science but I took classes in the humanities as my APs. I did it because I just wanted the weighted grade on my GPA and I had to take Chem before I could take any science AP. Bad idea. I died in art history. I focused on trying to get a decent grade in that class (it’s time consuming like other APs, but I’d rather spend time on something that I like!) that I couldn’t focus on the stuff I really liked. That sounds like a made-up excuse but that’s what I also think pulled me down. As you can see I still tried because I knew I had to get into a good school. I’m going to take a community college class for Biology this summer. </p>
