They’re pretty slim as it is…

No if you are not a qualified applicant, yes if you are. Post your stats.

Um, well…

4.5 uw and 3.9 w
I took 5 APs my junior year (chemistry, world, lang, calc ab and ush), and 6 senior year (environment, biology, statistics, euro, psychology and literature).
My ec’s are not stellar. Only two awards. Maybe others. Not sure.
Not sure of rank, but I’m in the top twenty out of 217.
I already graduated. I’m taking a gap year. I plan on getting a job and volunteering more.

No sat or sat IIs yet. On my junior psat I got a 205. :-

From my understanding your EC’s will hurt you (it seems that you have no leadership or community service). Take the ACT, you don’t have time to take the SAT and multiple subject tests if you want to apply ED anywhere.

Ah, yes. Well, I did not have a lot of free time for them. What time I had left over from school, I devoted to survival. I’ll let my schools know this.
Example: my senior year, up until December when we were evicted, I spent a large amount of time working with mother to start her business. It failed, and all of that time was wasted, I guess.

Really? But I would still need them for my other choices when I’m not accepted to H. :-\

Also, would you happen to know of a list that shows at what schools you’re able to substitute the ACT for subject tests?

Almost all schools now will except the SAT with two subject tests or the ACT with the optional writing

“a list that shows at what schools you’re able to substitute the ACT for subject tests”

Thanks so much!

So does ed substantially increase my chances?

Harvard does not have ED.

alexisss,
Harvard has a single choice early action program, not ED. Although you say you are lacking in extracurriculars, from the little you have divulged here, it sounds like you have a really good reason for that and can write a compelling essay. May I ask why you are seemingly so fixated on applying to Harvard?

Thank you for the information! I feel so silly. >__<

Would you happen to know what SCEA entails?

I guess whatever I put into my essay is imperative at this point. I don’t want to sound needy or pathetic, but I’ve faced hardships. That much is quite unavoidable, and it’s an integral part of who I am and, subsequently, my application.

Well, Harvard has always been my dream. Many have constantly disparaged my mother for raising me by herself and they’ve always said that I would end up unsuccessful. I’d like to prove them wrong. That may seem silly, but it’s important to me.
Also, because of my finances, I could get a full-ride at Harvard if I ever got in! I’m afraid my grades aren’t good enough and that my SAT scores will probably suck. That’s why I’m stalking CC to glean more information about my dream school.
haha

OMG.
