I had scheduled to take the ACT on April 14th, but I just got my SAT back and I was very happy with my score. I had prepared for the SAT, and so far have not done anything to prepare for the ACT. If I get a bad ACT score, will it make me seem like a weaker applicant despite my higher SAT score?

Well, for the ACT, you specify which score you want to turn in. So if you do bad on it, don’t send it to any college.

Yea, ACT is not permanate. You can decide for yourslef to send it to colleges or not. If not, they can not see them

i’m in the same boat, mi22. i didn’t kno you could keep it off your transcript–i’m super-glad 'cause I have to take it on the 14th! i definitely wouldn’t have taken it…but I thought it would look weird since the ACT headquarters is in my town.

Thanks… such a relief. Now I won’t stress (as much) for the 14th test

what about the other way around? will a decent act score (35) compensate for a marginal sat score (2180)?

and i’m talkin about like hyps

You dont have to send both ACT and SAT scores, so yes, it should compensate.

Also, 35 is solidly in the 99th percentile, so it is far more than a “decent” score. I believe 33-and-up is 99th percentile.

well, for harvard and princeton, they want to see sat II’s even if you send in the act, so inevitably my sat score will show up when they see the score report for the subject tests…

ya birk im in the same boat, i dont want them to see my first two sat scores… :/… hopefully i do alot better the third and last time, june 2

Well, an assistant will see your SAT scores, yes. If the admissions officer has an assload of time to spend on your app then yes she will see it, but I doubt that is going to happen.

It is possible that the ad com will see your SAT score, but not at all probable.

Remember that once you request which test SAT or ACT to count, that is the only score that is going to go into “the formula”, so I really wouldn’t lose sleep over it, but on the other hand I understand why you are concerned and it is far easier for me to say this since it is not my app that is being affected by it.
