Will Barnard require tests for fall 2025 applicants (class of 2029)?

Has Barnard indicated whether test scores will be required for the Fall 2025 application round?

As of this time, per my sources, Barnard has not published any information concerning those applying to matriculate in Fall 2025, and test score requirements. Their websites still list information pertaining to those matriculating in Fall 2023 & 2024.

Weighing potentials in the context of other highly selective institutions going test-required, and others staying test-optional (notably Columbia), it’s hard to predict what Barnard will choose. I’m leaning towards them staying Test-Optional, following Columbia’s decision considering their affiliation.

I doubt they will change for applicants to the college graduating class of 2029 (HS class of 2025). If they make an announcement soon, it likely wouldn’t be effective until the cycle for students entering 2026, given there are limited opportunities to take before the application deadline.

Barnard remains SAT and ACT test-optional for students applying as first-year students applying for 2025, 2026 and 2027 entry. Students may choose to apply with or without submitting standardized test scores from the SAT or ACT exam. If they choose not to submit SAT or ACT results, no other materials will be requested in lieu of test scores.
