lets say 50k subscribers on youtube? wouldnt it be considered as one of the best EC activity? maybe some of you dont consider someone with 50k subs CELEB. but at least rate it as EC activity

That would be an interesting activity and maybe you could write an essay about how you developed the channel and following. I don’t think it’s one of the best activities you could have. That’s overreaching.
It’s an interesting EC. Its helpfulness in admissions will depend on the content of the videos.

Because there is a wide variety of original material on the internet and not all of it is appropriate for showing to admissions officers. Blogs of scantily clad women get thousands of followers. Is that an accomplishment?
It is an EC, but it doesn’t make you a celebrity.
Just as bodangles said, what you are a YouTuber OF matters a lot. If you are like a YouTube gamer who got subs from gaming, then it won’t help you much honestly unless you dream of becoming a gamer or such. Also, having a mere 50,000 subs not some form of a “celebrity” at all; if you are thinking so, you are clearly mistaken as there are tons of youtubers with 50,000 subs.
Also, answer to your original question, “will being a celebrity assist ivy league acceptance?” is maybe, but won’t much. There are many reasons, and these are some main reasons:
- Elite universities do look at ECs, but they don’t only look at EC.
- There are TONS of many other applicants who have or even better EC than yours. You will notice that some applicants are the founder of some companies – although not well known – or are the maker of an app that’s been sold more than 100,000 times, or have patented some innovations, etc.
If you are relying on just that “EC” to go to Ivy League, or using that as a way to go to Ivy League, then totally give up that dream.

@HardOREasy answered the question well but I’ll elaborate. If your internet “celebrity” is based on skateboarding, gaming, or anything vulgar it won’t help. In fact I’m having a hard time thinking of a subject that would make you a particularly compelling applicant.

You should spend more time on your SAT retake and TOEFL rather than grasp at straws to make you attractive to Stanford and “ivies”. 50K subscribers isn’t being a “celebrity”
Being Emma Watson helps. Being YouTube famous doesn’t.
A Youtube channel CAN be a great EC, in the right context. Take the view of a college: they want applicants that they can brag about in 30 years. If you have a channel reviewing games and you just list that, it’s not gonna help you much regardless of how many followers you have. In contrast, if you have a channel making jokes about current events, you pair it with a journalism internship/award or two, and write about wanting to be a famous journalist and how your Youtube career has been your way of venturing into the industry in 9th grade, then your showing them why a large number of followers is a metric that could indicate future success. High followers now = large viewership later. You need to focus on the context, but even if it has nothing to do with apps you should still pursue your passions if you love it. Definitely don’t exchange your Youtube channel for obsessing over SAT retakes. Have fun, follow your passions, and don’t become a number.

also why do you think 3 subject tests would hurt? with all the great ECs and stuff , third subject test which is not even recommended would show more passion. no?
