I’m a junior is High School that got A’s in every subject except geometry, algebra 2 , and Statistics where I got a mix of B’s and C’s. I want to go to school to become a doctor but I feel like my poor math grades are holding me back. Would joining the army as a medic help me get accepted since I would get first hand medical experience?
Any experience in a medical field will certainly make your resume more robust. Medical school admission will depend on your GPA in college, not high school. It is possible to get some tutoring to shore up your math skills, then make sure to get as much support for math as you can once you are in college. Pre-med is all about the courses that meet admissions requirements for medical school entrance and not so much a specific major. You are correct, however, in assuming that math is important.
Keep working on the math skills. You will need them in college and medical school.
There is no such thing as a pre-med program. For med school students need to graduate a 4 year college and take the required 8-10 pre-med courses. Students can have any major. I believe that a minimum of two semesters in different sciences (biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, physics) is required. Classes such as physics do require higher math skills so you will need them before starting college. Your experience is great but if you don’t have the college grades and MCATS, I don’t think your experience as a medic alone will get you into med school.
You are not guaranteed to get medical field in Army. And it is almost impossible to get. Extremely competitive
