I have alright stats and I still have to take my SAT/ACT (I’m a junior). But are a lot of people at UMD from the west coast? Will that help my chances?

I don’t know that it will help your chances, but there are far fewer OOS students from California than from states surrounding UMD, especially NJ. UMD is very numbers based. I don’t know what “alright stats” means, but you should spend some extra time preparing for your SAT/ACT and take the test(s) sooner than later. Take practice tests and then get some extra help/tutoring on those areas where you score lower…go back through and figure out why you missed what you did.

I’m not positive, but I don’t think being from CA will help your chances a lot. It’s definitely better than being from NJ/NY, but it’s not like you’re from North Dakota or Wyoming.

I am also from California but was told that he would not help me but it might hurt me for scholarships because I am OOS. UMD rather pay in state for scholarship vs OOS for scholarships. Keeping my fingers crossed for Banneker/Key scholarship
