Will Biochem be the death of me?

This is not necessarily school-specific question, but at the University of St Andrews, the MBiochem coursework seems more heavy on biology than in chemistry. I had a bad chemistry teacher in high school and didn’t like it because of that; he was much too easy on us. I have no real scale for how if I could succeed in this degree program.

Also, considering I’m an American student and want to get out and experience Scotland, would this be impossible with a biochemistry degree?

I guess all I’m asking is how hard it really is. Sorry if I’m unclear.

I can’t really answer how hard St. Andrews’s particular MBiochem course is, but I can say that any UK/European degree program is extremely focused on that particular field of study (as opposed to American universities where you can take all kinds of classes). Which means that you’ll have ample opportunity to catch up with any chemistry you missed out on in high school.

Not exactly sure what you’re asking about experiencing Scotland though. Do you mean opportunities to travel while you’re in uni? Because I’ve heard from US students in the UK that a perk of studying there is that they can fly very cheaply to mainland Europe over the weekends. Which sounds amazing! So you should definitely be able to find time to explore Scotland, which is considerably more local.
