Will Colleges Like This?

Regardless of whether or not colleges like it I’m going to do it anyway, but I’d like to know if it would be a good idea to include this on my transcript.

An old friend of mine is in dire straights. She’s almost 18 years old and a high school dropout. She desires to get her GED but lacks the motivation to do so. Her family is either unable or disinterested in giving her the help she needs, so I plan on tutoring her (for free, of course) so she can pass her GED and then attend a technical, 2-, or maybe even 4-year institution of higher education.

What do you think?

Im not sure but i think thats a very nice thing for you to do and i hope this person eventually will get her GED

You could write a pretty compelling essay about it. Good for you though- it’s a nice thing you’re doing.

Sure, if you can figure out a way to put it into an essay or your volunteer history. I’d get started on it so they can see that you are actually doing it rather than just planning on it.

I’m a junior so I don’t have to worry about applying until next year. I’m starting in the summer.

How are you planning to put this on your application? Are you simply going to write “Tutored friend to pass her GED (10 hrs/wk)”?

Put it on my transcript / in my essay (free GED tutoring)…

Any more thoughts?
