I am a division 1 athlete and have the opportunity to stay an extra semester. I am worried that this might affect my chances at getting into a Master of Structural Engineering program. My extra semester would only have 1 engineering class but I could do another internship this summer. Would this hurt my chances?
I am a senior civil engineering student, 3.7 cumulative GPA and GRE scores in the around the 87th percentile for both section.
???
Are you concerned that the 9th semester will only have 1 engineering class? Why would that matter if you already have your engineering classes completed during the first 8 semesters?
I don’t think so. As long as you have good GPA, research experience, and good prof. recommendations you are fine.
I wouldn’t be starting grad school until fall of 2016. By then it would have been a long time since I took my main engineering classes
That doesn’t matter. Also there is a grad school forum for future grad school questions.
I don’t think your situation is different from many 5th year senior eng’g students. You’d be applying to grad schools during fall of that 5th year.
It is absolutely no problem. May engineering students work for a while before going to graduate school so you are well within norms.
Thanks for the insight
