I’m a current senior that is narrowing his college choices down to USC and a few other choices but assuming I don’t get off a wait list to my top college, I will probably go to USC (aid is a minor factor but I’m 70% going to be a trojan next year). Anyways I am planning on applying for the Thematic Option (TO) as I really like the small classes and interdisciplinary emphasis. However, I have one concern and that is that TO is considered harder and Im wondering if that would be good/bad if I plan on applying to Grad (business) or law school after. I hear the only things that matter for grad/law school (especially law) are test scores and GPA so I don’t know if a harder program is worth it?

In general, law schools and graduate schools like to see leadership and honors classes so I would think that TO would help. Of course this does depend on the school. Some law schools use straight gpa/test scores and some use a more holistic admission protocol.

Golfer – TO had an earlier application date and a wave of students has already been accepted or rejected. If you want to participate in TO, you should probably get in touch with them asap and find out what there situation is in terms of spaces left and how to apply at this point. If you are planning to apply, you should probably get on it right away.

TO is hard work, but I don’t believe the program is designed to ruin the GPAs of the top-achievers in the entering class. It sounds like a pretty generous curve. And with any luck, you might learn writing skills and content that help you eventually when applying to grad/law schools.
