Will grad schools know about undergrad conduct hearing?

I’m planning on applying to grad school in the next year, and in most of the programs I’m applying to, it asks “Have you ever been found of a disciplinary or academic violation that has resulted in expulsion, suspension, or probation?”

My junior year of college, I was really dumb and smoked weed on campus. This was legal in my state (I was 21 in a weed-friendly state), but it went against campus policy. I had to have a conduct hearing and ended up writing an essay about the dangers of marijuana. The case closed and doesn’t show up on my transcript. Would I have to report this to grad schools? Technically it didn’t result in me being put on probation (since the only thing that happened was that I had to write an essay), so I’m tempted to click no.

I would answer the question asked. If the answer is no, it’s no.

Others may ask if you’re been found guilty of a violation of school policy - then it’s yes.

Answer honestly.

No one is going to care about that. Admit. Show remorse. Move on.
