My son has 4.0 GPA, 5.5 HPA, plays competitive tennis, plays clarinet, loves science as much as humanities and is very motivated to work hard and do well. He likes to socialize, but is not very good at initiating any relationships and is sometimes socially awkward . We will be visiting the campus next month, but just wanted to get some feedback, if he may have some difficulties fitting in.
I think he will fit in!
Huge school. People of all stripes. Like any new setting, it does take some effort and time to make new friends. Just encourage him to pursue his interests and get involved no matter where he winds up.
There are all kinds of people at Cornell. It seems choosing a suitable dorm and a suitable roommate will be a good start. Agree that joining club like tennis or music/clarinet, he would tend to meet people who share his interest.
I know many hard-working, sometimes socially-awkward kids who are thriving at Cornell. YOur son would definitely fit in there .
