Will I be able to get into Duke? Or do I have to go for ED?

Hey guys, Duke is by far my top choice for schools along with Northwestern. I’m a laid back guy but I still get good grades and stuff (sport freak also), so Duke and Northwestern fit those quite nicely. I was wondering if I am safe enough for Duke regular decision, or if I should go for ED to boost my chances to getting into those schools. Any feedback is nice. I’ll post my stuff now, thanks for lookin.

Asian male (damn those stereotypes to hell)
GPA: 4.0 UW
There are no weighted GPAs… Actually, there is no 4.0 system either.
They do overall percentages… In which I have a 95.5%.
SAT I: first attempt:
composite: 2260
CR: 690 (im taking SAT over again to try to raise this)
Math: 790 (im usually an 800 guy, so my 2nd SAT attempt hopefully fixes that)
Writing: 780 (pleasantly surprised me)
Essay: 12

ACT: 34
Essay: 11
Not taking that 5 hour crap over again… Like the score anyways heh

US History: 720

AP Tests: NO idea, but at least a 4 or 5 in Biology and US History I think.

I’ll have 6 AP classes during high school: AP US, AP Bio, BC Calc, AP French, AP English, AP Physics.

ECS:

Class rank: top 3% out of around 380 people

I might have forgotten some stuff. I’ll stick em in later on. Thanks for lookin.

You have a good chance. I wouldn’t worry about the 690. I had a 2290 composite with 800writing, 800cr, and 690 math… kind of a big difference but math isn’t really my thing, and I think they figured that out. a 2260 is a really good score.

Just make sure you have a good essay. Your grades and everything are good, and you have good ECs from the looks of it but you didn’t really elaborate. What’s your passion? What makes you tick? Don’t look like a laundry list of accomplishments. Stand out. In the essay.

Oh and if you REALLY really like Duke, then go for ED. If you’d always be wondering, “What would life be like at Northwestern? Would I have had a chance?” then don’t do ED.

Well i actually have a sample essay done. I’m kinda a well-rounded (no arrogance involved, just lack of a better word) person who has interest in sports and helping other people, and at the same time, maintaining a competitive academic level. What I did write about, however, is my change from middle school to high school. I used to go to a public school in middle school where I cared for nothing but the usual teenage things, like getting girls and such. I was incredibly spoiled. I was cocky in sports because I started, etc. I went to a private Catholic high school, however, which introduced me to community service and extremely high and competitive academics. I wasn’t the best at everything anymore, and the school transformed my character. I didn’t take things for granted and became a community service coordinator and a can food drive enthusiast. I took this passion for helping others and for striving to make myself the best person I could be in all my areas of high school, including sports, academics, etc. This has made me the person I am today and doesn’t really do a laundry list of all my accomplishments, but highlights an important transition that elevated all other aspects of my life. That’s a general synopsis of the essay, although I made it sound more formal, instead of writing “getting girls” haha.

Thanks for the feedback though. I’m not quite sure about the not worry about 690 thing though. I love my overall score, but in your case, you ACED the other 2 sections haha.

I’ll try to perfect this essay… I have a good few months to tweak it. Again, thanks for the help. Lemme know what you think of my essay topic.

i had pretty similar scores and ECs and i got in; u shud be fine

Ur SATs are higher than mine…i got a 680 W 2210 overall in SATs and about top 3% in school, sooooooo basically I say as long as ur essays goods u should be able to get in. (P.S. My essay was s**tty, because I wrote it in the last two weeks and I got in) So…yea :p
