Will I be able to keep my scholarships?

I’m receiving about 5,000 in outside scholarships for college, and Cornell is giving me no loans/work study. So when I report the scholarships to them, I’m expecting that they will lower the amount of grant they are giving me.

However, is there any way to increase my budget for the year over the estimated budget, making my financial need higher and therefore tagging my scholarships onto my grants and technically receiving my scholarships? I expect to buy an expensive laptop and to have much higher travel costs (flying to/from Miami to Ithaca is expensive) than suggested.

I think that they take it away from yoru loans first and your grants last.

if you go to finaid.cornell.edu and check the ‘forms’ link you will see a budget increase form. This is where they list all acceptable expenses for which if you exceed, you can ask for a budget increase. This form will not be available until August.
