Will I be accepted anywhere with a 2.9 GPA?

I have excellent experience and extra curricular activities (have been in numerous musicals, won scholarships, thousands of volunteer hours, etc.), but I have a 2.9 GPA. I am taking the SAT and ACT really soon, but I haven’t studied for them. I speculate that I’d get about an 1800-2000. Freshman and sophomore year in high school I goofed off, getting some D’s, some C’s, some B’s, and an occasional A. I am now a junior in high school. During my first two years of high school, I was recovering from an abusive relationship, suicidal tendencies, bullying, and physical abuse from my parents. I had no one to turn to. None of my “friends” were there for me, and I had an awful relationship with my siblings. I didn’t really get over it until this year, so now I am getting really good grades. My progress does show in my grades. I have been getting better and better. This year I haven’t gotten any C’s.

What do you think I should do? Should I go to community college? Are there any colleges out there that you think will admit me? I have looked at universities that often times accept high school kids with lower GPAs, but those schools seem to be limited in terms of diversity and I’d like to go somewhere where I can meet all kinds of people.

Any colleges? Certainly. The first thing to check is how much your family can afford for school. What is your home state? There are very good “directional Us” (Eastern Carolina, etc) that would accept you. The least expensive ones will be those for which you are in-state.

I’d suggest going on Collegesimply and plugging in your GPA. It’ll pull up a list of schools that are likely to accept you and will separate them by state. Though the site is riddled with inaccuracies, it helped me figure out what types of schools I had a shot of admission at!

What state do you live in?
